[Pro] HTML5 Page Bug?....

I have been exploring the features of Freeway 6.0.8, and its capabilities with HTML5, and may have discovered a small bug. It involves the simple action of drawing HTML text boxes, and there have been times where I have used the “Shift-Enter” command to place text directly underneath a line of text (instead of a large break, if that makes sense).

I have noticed that in HTML5-rendered pages, I use the “Shift-Enter” command for text lines; however, when uploaded to a site, it shows a “large break” between text lines in spite of it showing the text correctly within Freeway. But then, when I change the page to render in HTML 4.01 Transitional, it renders correctly on websites.

Is anybody else having this problem? If so, please let me know. And, if nobody has experienced this, I’m letting you know that this is the case, and should be fixed.

Hi Dorian,

I don’t believe this is an HTML5 bug, but an issue with temporary styles.
Why some doctypes behave differently for you is irrelevant, I think.

On inspection of your page code, I can see that each line in which the

element occurs (the shift-enter in FWP) has several temporary span styles
applied to it. You can see them in the the Styles Palette (.style33,
.style5, .style61, etc.) I bet they are in conflict and causing
unpredictable results.

Here is a tip for creating cleaner style code: After you type some new,
unstyled text, make one small style adjustment to start - like color or
size. Immediately, you will see FWP add a temporary style to the Style
Palette. Open the Style Editor, either through menu Edit > Styles or the
gear menu on the Styles Palette. Locate your new temporary style in the
style list and select it. Rename it to something that makes more sense in
the context of your use, and check the box marked “permanent”.

Now, under the paragraph styles option select an Alignment attribute (even
if your text is already correctly aligned). This will cause Freeway Pro to
apply this style to the whole paragraph, and not just pieces of it.

Going forward, style all new text with this style by inserting your cursor
into each paragraph of new text, then selecting the stylename in the Style
Palette. Make all your edits to this style through the Style Editor instead
of on the page. This is a little more work, but styling your text this way
will be easier and produce cleaner, less buggy code.

Best of luck.
