[Pro] HTML5 Video Issue

I’ve used the HTML5 action throughout my site with no issues. Last night I went to bed, and when I woke up and opened my FW site folder the HTML5 was stripped.

All of the videos that have always been marked HTML5 will not accept the action now, meaning when I remove and re-import them the HTML5 action no longer appears as an option.

Nor does it if I attempt to insert a video on a page that never had one within the same site. Even if I create a blank page within the site the action still does not appear.

But if I open a brand new site document folder unassociated with my current one to test it things work fine.

I deleted and reinstalled the action, but it is still not appearing as an option like it did before.

Fortunately I already published the site, so a working form is up. But this obviously stops me from updating.

What could cause the action to not be available to an entire site folder? But work properly on a new site?

The ONLY change in the site was me re-stating all of the links as absolute rather than relative in order to allow me to keep the three form pages https: and the rest http:.

But I uploaded the site after those changes were made, and it worked fine. So something happened between then and now.

This one is baffling me. Not sure what is inhibiting the use of the action.

A video placed anywhere within the current site folder just shows the standard Quicktime bits in the Inspector, and does not show HTML5 as an option under Items> Actions. I just don’t get what would be governing that enough to change it site-wide.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Here is one of the offending pages I uploaded to show the code – the home page with the failed HTML5 action:

http://www.rockymountainravelco.com/nohtml5.html

And, again, here is the current working one that is already online:

http://www.rockymountainravelco.com

I don’t know if something corrupted every page in the folder, but no current (or new) pages within it will allow the action to be applied.

Theoretically, you could. I suppose.

Opening thing? Meaning, the HTML5 video? The screens are just shifting slides in an MP4 video.

I appreciate the commentary, but back to topic. My HTML5 action isn’t working!

Hi Wireguy,

You mention that you’re trying to add the Action to your Site Folder? You should only need to select your item containing a QuickTime movie, go to the Item menu, select Actions and choose HTML 5 Video. There are no restrictions in place on the Action so it should be visible (I did notice that it fails if you use HTML 3.2 though, but you would still be able to apply it).

Joe:

Actually, no. I understand that the action needs to be placed on an item. Until this problem occurred, I had it successfully applied to every video on the site – and it still is on the published online version.

But what happened was when I went back to work on it this morning in Freeway, all of the MP4’s were stripped and I could not re-apply the action to any of them.

Even though the night before they were operational.

What I meant to say was that I cannot re-apply the action to any video or page inside of my current site folder. The action is not available in Items> Actions, but if I open an entirely new site folder I can then apply it to a video like normal.

I can’t figure out for the life of me what is prohibiting the action. I can pull the pages offline and manually enter the HTML 5 code if I have to, but that really isn’t ideal every time I make a small change.

Fortunately I had the site up at around 95%, but there is a serious kink in my workflow until I figure it out.

Were the movie files on a removable disk of any kind? If you go to Edit>Reources are they marked as OK or Missing?

Did anything change on your Mac? Update to QuickTime in any form?
That’s where I would start looking. Find an MP4 file in Finder, single-
click it, and use Get Info to see what application is set to open it.
There’s a database of sorts in Mac OS that is used to determine what
to do with each file type. It sounds to me as though that’s where the
problem starts, because Freeway asks that same database when accessing
a file to see if it’s something that Freeway is “allowed” to use.

Joe: the videos are local on my hard drive, and fine in resources – everything looks the same as it has been for the last two months.

Walt: I checked, and they are set to open via Quicktime as usual.

Like I said, I launched the working site, went to bed, woke up, reopened the file, the something had gone awry in the interim.

Again, it seems limited to that particular site folder, as I can open a new separate site outside of the current afflicted folder, import the same videos, and apply the action with no problem.

Well, I retrieved a backup from the 13th – and the HTML 5 action is preserved there. I’m not one to set something aside and forget about it, but I’ll probably rebuild from that point and see if things stay kosher.

And write it off as the Freeway Gods having versed me in their omnipotence.

Glad you got a solution, even if it isn’t the ideal one… Let us know if it happens again.

My priority is to get FW working again, but I won’t let the other folder sit. I’m too OCD to not sort out what happened with it.

Appreciate all the help, though. I copied and pasted my forms into the back-up version to bring it up to date, and the HTML 5 action is still alive and kicking.

Hopefully it stays that way.

I’ll update if I find a way to correct the ailing and infirm folder.
