Got some excellent guidance by Dan’s Hybrid_Box_Model_Layouts screencast.
However I’m still not sure how to solve some things - when i need to update the content & setting from the Master. Do I have to work this several Masters / templates? (is not in FRW- Reference.)
Esp. in my case some Right Column items which I have to update from time to time from the Master.
And the Footer , which has to be the same on all pages, although it is part of the expandable box-model /flow-model structure. Maybe I have to update it too some time.
But when i set page X to “reapply Master” the page specific content is gone … that’s no secret to anyone of course.
The issue with working with any normal box-model set up has always been the Master / Child relationships. Freeway currently doesn’t do the best at keeping those together and often times it’s super difficult to keep things connected. The same goes with hybrid box-model, BUT that is where planning comes in to determine which elements are box-model and which are just drag-and-drop.
In that ScreenCast I went through rebuilding a drag-and-drop design into a box-model for a site that was only a few pages. When the site is just a few pages then it’s easier to deal with the discrepancies, versus going through hundred’s of pages to fix everything. That ScreenCast also went through my store site and showed you which elements were drag-and-drop and which were box-model. One of things I hope people got out of it was the identification of different elements that could benefit from being drag-and-drop versus those that would have to be box-model. Things like navigation, logos, etc. This is where a hybrid design could alleviate some of those nasty disconnections.

Well my impression is that the hybrid layout I came up with was successful:
a better way (=the only way) to update items which are drag-and-drop, together
with the advantages of the box model,
Thank you for the input & the screencast (Dan’s Hybrid_Box_Model_Layouts)!
