[Pro] Image Gallery

I’m not sure how to really describe this but here goes:

I have images that I would like to have arranged on a page where there would be 4 or 5 smaller thumbnail images at at the bottom. Once an image is clicked a larger, ‘hero’ image would appear above the thumbnails. Each thumbnail would have it’s own larger image so when subsequent thumbnail images are clicked, the corresponding hero image would appear and the previous hero image would disappear.

Does this make sense?

Hi Mark, perfect sense.

Off the top of my head I can think of 2 ways to do this.

  1. Link your thumbnail to open in new window and have this window at a set size so it doesn’t blot out the whole screen.

  2. Use Max’s Webyep Gallery and Lightbox. This way it would open up above the page and ‘grey’ the underlying window out. This would also give the option of scrolling backwards and forwards through the larger Hero pictures without having to close windows.

There are quite a few threads about it on FreewayTalk.

all the best

why not use Showcase? The “Slideshow” function does just this.

Didn’t think of that, as I’ve never used Showcase.

For only a few images, you could use the Rollover Action on the thumbnails, and the Target Show/Hide Image Action on the large images. The large images would be stacked on top of one another, so that they all appeared to be in the same spot.

I was hoping to not to have an additional window open when displaying the images. I apologize for not making that clear. The thumbnails would all be present at the bottom of the window. When a selected thumbnail image is clicked, a corresponding larger hero image would appear above the thumbnails.

Walter, that is precisely what I am trying to accomplish but ran into all sorts of issues. I had done some looking around and was grouping/mapping/rollover actioning my way into one big mess.

Then Target show/hide is the way to go. Do you have a link to a WIP that we can see if we can spot where you are going wrong?

There are many examples out there - here is one http://www.deltadesign.co/odds/target.html

Thank you all for the responses. I was able to get them to work as I had hoped.
