[Pro] iPhone Development

I will shortly be doing an iPhone site with Freeway. Am I missing something . . . I know there are some iPhone actions as core in 5.4.2 i’m using but there is very littlle in the way of documentation as to their use and application. Why is this?

I need as much information as I can get as this field is new to me. Softpress mention an iPhone page on the site but it links to something completely different. Why feature it within the software but not explain some basics or application or indeed meaning of the iPhone actions provided.

The simple fact of the matter is that the iPhone is designed to render pretty much any site correctly without much tweaking of the site itself.

Other mobile browsers may not be so capable - a question I cant answer - but if it is the iPhone user you are targeting then the main things to look out for are things like Flash usage and hover events.

There are all sorts of discussions about making pages tall and thin etc etc. but the iPhone actions/settings are primarily for viewport width and height, initial zoom, max and min scale and Phone No detection.

Other iPhone actions are used to direct iPhone users to specific iPhone content but if you are building for iPhone then these really dont apply.

Here is a piece on the subject that applies no matter what software you are using to create your site Designing Web Pages for Mobile Devices

Hi Dave

Thanks (once again) for your help and comments. Always appreciated. Thanks too for the link. I suppose the gist of my post was really if Softpress included these actions and features into Freeway specifically for “iPhone” why not document them a little better. I know we all have to do some research but its a bit like “here is a flat pack wardrobe - sorry no plans - build it”. I appreciate the iPhone/Touch will display web page content - as is but I think Softpress should at least have a section on their site re mobile device guidelines etc. and some comment about the use of their actions aimed at iPhone.

Thank you once again

Thanks Joe

I must hold my hands up and admit - “I didn’t see that before!”
and only because its part of the Tour for 5.5 on the website. I See also pdf “Building Websites for the iPad and iPhone with Freeway - revised for Freeway 5.3”

Thankyou for pointing this out - exactly what I was looking for from Softpress.

Regards

If you want to build iPad website, I can recommend to try one of the
website builders on http://www.webbuildersguide.com/website-builder-
categories/website-builders-for-mac/. They are created specially for Mac
and don’t require any coding knowledge. Also it should be noted, they are
available for free. So you can save money and build your site without
putting in great efforts. Hope it helps!
