[Pro] iPhone Template

Anyone used the iPhone template who can advise how to upload a design? I understand you need to add a new Domain name, ie
iphone.atyourexistingdomain

Can you add this to an existing FTP upload in Freeway?

Anyone used www.monomobo.com they do ready made designs for iPhone web pages and provide a service free to do that. But do they look after the hosting?

I have a web I wish to put on an iPhone in a simplified form

I understand you need to add a new Domain name, ie iphone.atyourexistingdomain

This often depends on your server configuration. Ie on my servers a mobile version at m.mysite.com would only require that I set up a sub domain of m and then create a sub folder in my FW doc with the name of m.

Then any files in the m folder would be viewable at m.mysite.com

Separate upload/ftp not required.

Can I just add that I think you should first of all sort your existing pages so that they display better.

You have a fairly major issue with different text boxes overlapping when viewed at anything other than relatively small text sizes.

Different Browsers/Operating Systems can display your text at differing sizes.

To simulate this view your site with Safari then in Safari’s ‘View’ Menu enable the ‘Zoom Text Only’ option.

Now when viewing a page if you use Cmd + your displayed text size will increase and if you do it a couple of times you will see what happens to your site.

I think one of the worst offending pages is subpages/page-two.html which is the About Us page.

There your mix of graphic and html text with wildly different line heights and sizes makes it look particularly messy.

Thanks for replies re iPhone template. I do realise that the current web pages do not configure to the iPhone and wish to make a much simpler format with a short intro and a few photos of food on offer together with an abbreviated menu. I thought I could use the Freeway Template to do this using some of the media from the current web. Is that not possible? Alternatively I could use the Australian web monomobo to make a workable design. I understand once you have a sub domain you just point it to their server using an IP address and choose Total DNS and MXRecords. I am waiting for a reply from monomobo.
Thanks

Yes you certainly can.

And you do not need a service like monomobo - there is an iPhone/iPad redirect action that will do it for you. Not necessary to change DNS and MX records.

First thing I would do is create a new FW doc using your iPhone template, build the site until you are happy with it.

At that point you can create your subfolder/subdomain and publish the iPhone files into it.

Then add the iPhone/iPad redirect to your main site.

Can I add, there’s a bunch of google code in the top of the page displaying over the background. You need to fix that. (did you add the full code supplied in the meta tags and not just the value?)

Delta Dave has pointed out that I have a ‘bunch’ of google code displayed over the background of my web pages.

This was dropped on to verify this site with Google analytics. As I have no knowledge of HTML how do I get rid of this? I tried pasting into the Pages>Meta Tags box but thast did’nt work. Source code is only visible to me on 'View in a Browser" So how do you clean this up?

When you added this code, they may have told you to add it to a Meta tag. In the Page menu for that page, look at the Meta Tags option. It will always have a check mark next to it, because Freeway always adds the GENERATOR tag to each page. Select that option and look in the resulting dialog. You should see one for GENERATOR, and maybe another for the Google code. Click once on that Google tag and then click Edit. See what is in the Value field. If you see something that looks like code – with angle-brackets and quote marks and so forth – then you need to edit that down to just whatever is in the value= attribute. For example, if the Value field reads:

<meta name="google" value="some-cryptic-ID-code-here-abc-123"/>

You need to edit it down so it only includes this part:

some-cryptic-ID-code-here-abc-123

Once you do that, and upload again, you won’t see the random text in your visible page. I also think (but am not entirely sure) that once you have authenticated your site to Google, you can remove this code entirely without losing your place in the Google Analytics tree.

Hi David,
Select your home page and go to the Page > Meta Tags menu. In the User section delete the following entries;
Google
<meta name=

Select the System (http-equiv) tab and delete the “<meta name” entry.

If you still need to add the Google site verification code then use the Page > HTML Markup dialog and insert the code in the Before section.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Tim, Thanks for explaining that process, I had puzzled about how one added HTML to Freeway. Anyway have deleted the Google script as analytics not much help anyway.
Thanks, hope that is all cleared up now, best regards

Glad to have helped David. Another option Google gives you to verify that the site is yours is to upload a file with a specific name. Should you need to do it again it may be easier to add the upload Stuff Action to your home page, rename any old file you can find to the name Google provides, and attach it to the Action to upload alongside the HTML file.

Once the site is uploaded Google will verify the site for you and you won’t have touched the page code at all.
Regards,
Tim.
PS. I’m intrigued why you might think Google Analytics isn’t much help?

On an unrelated note I see that Trip Advisor has the Dining Room’s website as thediningroom.org.uk and not your .org site
