[Pro] Is Quicktime universal enough yet?

Simple - will the drag and drop MP3 Quicktime player work in most major browsers and even on…PCs?

On a Mac in Safari it’s instant play, any limitations elsewhere?

I don’t know the precise numbers, but QuickTime is approaching
universal penetration in all platforms, due in no small part to it
being a major global standard (MPEG4, ratified by the IETF or some
other multi-letter acronym standards body), as well as the incredible
popularity of the iPod/Phone/Pad. (All of those shiny toys mandate the
installation of iTunes, which on Windows means you get QuickTime
whether you want it or not.)

Thanks Walt, ya my concern is for PC users that don’t use iTunes etc. I love the simplicity of the QT player UI and find it quite useful for my intended design - as long as it doesn’t leave any viewers behind.

When you drag a QuickTime movie to the page in Freeway, Freeway writes the specific code needed by any browser to either load or find the plug-in. In the case of PCs running IE but without an iSomething in the house (vanishingly few), there is an ActiveX component to the plug-in finder which can allow the movie to play without explicitly installing anything. The ActiveX control would need to be authorized by the user, but they don’t need to have an admin-level account because they aren’t explicitly installing anything on the computer.
