[Pro] Is the Google Analytics Action "Universal"

I am using the Action Google Analytics and it simplifies adding the code by just using the UA number.

Now Google has a new thing called Universal Analytics code. Wondering if the Google Action still is up to date.

Hi Stephen,

It looks like Google are still transitioning things so the Action isn’t yet out of date. If you want to use the bleeding edge code then you can upgrade your Analytics account and add the code to your pages manually.

In the meantime, we’ll look into updating the Action and aim to have a new version available as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe, I’m interested in this as well. When do you think you’ll have an update to the Google Analytics Action?

If it’s going to be a while, where should I place the new Google code in my HTML Markup?

my HTML Markup?

Are you still at the action level for this stuff?

The Google code needs to be wrapped in script tags and placed just before
the closing head tag… e.g., the last item in the document head section.

Google has a nice tutorial if I remember correctly. If you don’t use their
web tools, you should spend more time with them - if only for the exposure.

I can’t give you an ETA, though it is coming. If you want to transfer now then have a look at the following document:

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/guide#transfer

In summary:

  1. You need to transfer your existing property (the thing that your unique tracking code is tied to) on the Analytics site.
  2. Once this is complete (it can take up to 48 hours), replace the old tracking code with the new tracking code. To do this, remove the Action from your pages and paste the new Universal tracking code Google provide in the HTML Markup dialog, making sure you select the “Before ” option from the pulldown menu.

Unfortunately, I am—but only because it was too easy to use the action. I know I need to become less dependent on actions and I’ll get there, eventually.
