[Pro] Javascript effects

Seeing more and more sites using lovely (non-flash) JavaScript effects like here:

for example, how is the pulse on the main graphic done, or navigation blob following the mouse done?

And where is the best place to to get to grips with starting to code these kind of effects?

This site, which was built using Pixie (a new CMS), is using jQuery
for its effects. You can do all sorts of amazing Flash-like visual
things with JavaScript and one or another effects “toolkits”. The one
that’s compatible with Freeway is called script.aculo.us, and it’s
documented at that very address (just add http:// to the beginning –
it’s a URL and a name).

There is a repository of effects and add-ons for this engine at http://scripteka.com
and if you Google Scriptaculous, you’ll probably find millions of
pages about it.
