[Pro] left margin and also mal's ecommerce

Hi 2 questions please. Thanks so so much for all support…

  1. Which action(s) would i need for the following please? When i expand my viewing window in a browser i want the left margin to be able to expand slightly and then hold position. Best explained by the way this website works i think… :

I am basically redesigning the above website and have been asked to keep the elements they love. Anyhow, one other area is the shop. The shop on the existing website has a cart etc that genuinely integrates neatly into the site design. http://www.richarddouglaspennant.com/collections/all/

I’m finding mal’s Ecommerce set up to be pretty ugly and although you can customise a little, its not that adaptable and seems clunky . Does anyone have that experience of it. (I’m about to try linking it to LinkLok to do mp3 downloads.)…Am i right in saying you can’t really customise enough to fit in neatly with a site’s design using mal’s ecommerce?

yours drowningly,

The basic layout is really just a centred site with full width header.

As for the contents of the cart - using Mal’s that can be displayed on your page before you go to the checkout and retain the look of your site that way.

It is only when you actually get to the checkout that your page becomes more Mal’s like.

The naked truth - David, and probably one of the reasons I dislike mal’s.

However had a quick look on the above existing cart-system called “shopify” ( Shopify Pricing - Setup and Open Your Online Store Today – Free Trial - Shopify USA ) and just wonder, how people can afford 26 Bucks the month selling a handful songs? We in Germany would say something similar to:

“An old women needs to knit a lot for it …”

There is nothing for free - sure, but 33 customers/month just for making a shop affordable - Uahhh.

I spent a lot of time and effort in finding out “the” solution but haven’t found it yet. Nothing easy to recommend cause it is probably a personal decision. That’s a pity - cause finally everyone is running finally to the amazons.

The ones that could come to choice:

  1. Mals
  2. Romancart (both so old-fashioned)
  3. Foxycart (expensive and code-knowledge necessary)
  4. ECWID
  5. OpenCart (complete engine, not freeway related)
  6. Serverside “sleep well at night” Solution (1&1…)

These are my 99 cents - but keep my eyes open.

Cheers

Thomas
