A strange problem has arisen. I have set an external http hyperlink to an html file inside a folder, both of which exist on my site. The link reads http://www.jbpuzzles.co.uk/gk08/gk08.html
It is one of many similar links and the others all work. With this one, it works when I ‘Preview in Browser’ but not after uploading and testing for real. I get the dreaded 404 page
Do you have an FTP application you can use to look directly on the
server to see if the file exists? Also, Mac filesystems are by nature
case-preserving but case-insensitive, while Linux and Unix (the most
common server platforms by far) are case-sensitive and case-
preserving. The difference means that a link which works on your Mac
might work because some part of the path has the wrong case, and while
the Mac can deal with that ambiguity, the server cannot. Check
through, one letter at a time, to make sure that the link URL is
precisely capitalized the same way as the folder and file names. I
find it is helpful in these cases to read the letters out loud while
someone else looks at the apposite text.

Yes, I use Cyberduck and the folder and contents are both there in lower case, just like all the other folders & contents.
The folders contain the files necessary to produce a ‘solve online’ crossword. I have converted the first 12 cryptic puzzles and the first 8 general knowledge (gk) puzzles and gk8 is the first to fail to work. I’ve checked and re-checked but I’m obviously missing something. I’ll keep looking.
I had thought of that Walt but I still checked all the file/folder names again with no luck. I also noticed that when I assigned the hyperlink I gave it a title just as I had the others and it does not show up when I hover the mouse over 'GK Puzzle No. 8 on my site although in Preview mode it works fine.
Very odd, I’m sure you will agree. I’ve even considered re-installing FW Pro.
Yes Dave. Late last night I was re-checking and I re-generated the files and folder concerned. The problem must have been there somewhere. Thanks to you, Waltd and chuckamuck for your help and advice.
