[Pro] Link To File Open In New Window/Tab?

Is there a way to make the Link To File action open the linked file (in this case a video, in others a .PDF) in a new window/tab on the browser?

Or, can anyone give me direction on using the hyperlink dialogue to correctly point to the right external file? I originally thought this was the right option for me since it offers the target “_blank” which prompts the new window/tab, but I’m not sure which protocol to use to make the server find the right file. I was hoping that by having the external files all bundled in the Site Folder, this would accomplish that, but it appears I am wrong or missing a step.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron

If you want to upload extra files then it is not enough to simply place them in the Site Folder as FW will only upload files it is aware of - ie through an action. (Just be aware that you really shouldn’t mess with the contents of the Site/Resources folders unless you know what you are doing as FW manages all these for you)

There are several actions like Upload Stuff or Extra Resources that you can use.

Once you have these files on the server (you can just FTP them) then use the External Tab in the Hyperlink editor to add their URL and you can have the opttion to use Target: _blank as well.

If you want to load a video in a pop up then try ScriptyLightbox or ScriptyLightbox2 - one of these does video better than the other.

So, does that mean there really isn’t a relatively easy way for me to inspire Freeway to open the Link To File action target in a new window - I just need to keep them as simple hyperlinks but identify their URL correctly in the editor?

Also, don’t know if you saw my subsequent post regarding Spawn New Window or not. Is there a reason I shouldn’t use that for the pop-up function with the video? I am simply trying to provide and alternate link to an external version of the embedded video from a text link in case the user has any issue viewing the embedded one.

If SNW is OK, too, does either it or Scripty Lightbox (1 or 2) have an advantage over the other with regard to avoiding pop-up blockers?

Yes it is easy - you just dont need the LTF action.

User instigated pop-ups are not blocked by pop-up blockers - only unrequested ones.
