I am setting up a website which will have weekly lists uploaded which will be available for visitors to download as pdfs. The Link to PDF obviously works well, but it copies the relevant pdf to the Resources folder.
Ideally I want to set up a folder on the server to which my client can access and upload the weekly pdfs without me having to do it every week. Is there a way of changing where the Link to PDF uploads the pdf, and of course the download path on the actual site to find the pdf, or do I need to look at a different method?
The Action isn’t going to help you in this case. But if you’re setting
this up for your client to do the uploading, you won’t need the Action
anyway.
If you are uploading into a subfolder that’s “next to” the page in the
server’s filesystem, just use the External tab of the Hyperlink dialog
to create the link, juat like you would if you were making a link to
another site. In the URL field, enter:
foldername/example.pdf
As long as your client always uploads (and overwrites) a file of the
same filename, this will not break. But if your client doesn’t name
the file correctly, the old file will be served. Similarly, if your
client removes the file on the server, or renames it there, the link
will be broken on the page.

Hi Jonathan,
If you use the Upload Stuff or Upload Extra Resources Actions you can choose to upload the PDF to the same folder as the html page the Action is applied to. If the link to download the PDF is on the same page then the URL in the Edit Hyperlink dialog box will simply be the name of the PDF file. For example;

Excellent stuff. Thanks to you both. I have recently had to start working in Freeway again more regulary, and I had forgotten just how much I enjoy using it - even if I sometimes don’t see the obvious!
