[Pro] Link to Remote Video

I am creating a mac app that requires an XHTML file for its help file for which I am using FWPro. The XHTML site sits within the application, but I would like to be able to link it to videos that are held on a central server (rather than have to distribute all the videos with the app).

How can I do this? I can’t spawn a new window as that jumps to a browser, rather than the help interface. So the video’s need to appear embedded within the XHTML pages.

Something similar to the YouTube video loader but with the ability to point at any file via a URL is what I need.

Well I guess the simple answer - to answer my own question - is to use an external link but then I don’t get any control over how the video displays (e.g. not to start playing).

I note that there appears to be a bug in FWP in the Edit Hyperlink window. If you use the Browse button to select a file then the URL returned is abbreviated and won’t work. I find that instead you have to paste the URL directly into the listbox.

Where do FreeWay bugs get reported?

More accurately, the file is not uploaded, and the link generated is to where the file would be if it had been uploaded. There are Actions that will upload files, and other Actions that will link to remote videos. Where are these videos hosted? If you have them on YouTube or Vimeo, there are Actions for both of those. If you want to use HTML5 video (you did say XHTML in your post) then I have written a couple of different Actions that will work with those.

Send an e-mail to support(a)softpress.com and they will get you into the bug reporting stream. Be prepared with a cut-down version of the site that’s causing you problems, and a list of what you have tried, and what happened that you didn’t like or understand.
