I am experiencing a very frustrating phenomenon for the first time while compiling a new website.
I have tried to set all my untouched links in red, then purple when hovered, and no change when visited, in bold Georgia text with no other formatting.
Everything looks correct in preview, but when uploaded, both Firefox (v.3.6.2) and Safari (v. 4.0.5) show the plain links in purple, then hovering as purple underlined, and another page with the plain link underlined. My specified colour and formatting just does not seem to transfer.
I have tried refreshing the browser page and emptying the cache - also completely reset Safari, still with no result.
I have rewritten the pages over and over with no luck. Please can you help?
The pages are at www.deniseblack.co.uk
Hi Graz. I’ve had a look at the site, and am getting the issues you report. You seem to have your links set at style 4 and style 10 (active and inactive as yet). I’m assuming you’ve created these styles, but if not you need to find out what they are, and If you have any rogue elements on different pages creeping in as this may account for the problem. The underline links in the inspector (2nd tab> Links) is a tricky beast; it actually has three settings and it’s possible to still have the underline turned on for separate pages. This will over-ride any ‘don’t underline links’ set in actions, so trial and error is needed.
Having said this links give me nightmares as well, so it may be something else I’ve yet to discover! Good luck, and if this doesn’t help, let me know and I’ll do some more digging.
all best wishes

First of all, are you using the Links section in the Inspctor palette
to do this? That’s the recommended way. See the Appearance
(paintbrush icon) section when inspecting your page - NOT when
anything is selected.
Second, if you don’t specify a ‘Visited’ colour then you’ll get the
browser default for any text link that points at a page you’ve seen
recently. And that default… is purple.
Third, the ‘U’ icons in the Links section of the Inspector palette
are what control the underlines for links. Sadly, it is very
difficult to tell the different states apart. There are three click
states:
White (default, “do what the browser says”, in reality means underline)
Pale grey (NO underline)
Slightly less pale grey (explicitly-set underline)
The tooltip text for these buttons just say “Underline”, no matter
what the buttons are set to.
BTW, you have a space character in the file name for the ‘band’ page.
I’m not sure how you managed this if you built this all in Freeway,
but that’s not good practise.
BTW2, Graeme told me I should catch them at the Pizza On The Park
venue. Shame I missed it.
Thanks so much for sharing your expertise - all fixed. I didn’t realise you have to set the ‘visited’ and ‘active’ values, even though you do not require any action to take place. And the fact that the browser default ‘visited’ colour is purple (my choice for the ‘hover’ value, was confusing me even more. In addition, the underlining system is certainly not exactly intuitive.
And just when are Softpress going to introduce more than the puny and often vexing one level only of undo???
BTW, space character in filename also now eliminated.
BTW2, yes the Pizza On The Park week was a huge success - please watch for further announcements!
Oh, and Keith, thanks to your initial recommendation help and guidance, my own website (www.graemetaylor.com) is going strong and now comprises a total of 82 pages, attracting plenty of hits. Hope life’s good for you too!

Mm. I think it is noted in Softpress Towers, but it never hurts to
mention it.

I will indeed. And I didn’t realise that was you, Graeme; I didn’t
notice the email address. Good to see you’re getting into this web
publishing lark! I’ll ping you off-list.
