[Pro] Long page Inline probelm

Also have a look at PulseCMS.com which has a great Blog feature - even if you dont use the rest of the CMS features - and only costs$29 per site.

Thanks for the suggestion David. I will look at it too.

Walt: like your suggestion very much. I think it will save me a lot of time. And 5 blogs per page is actually better I now know too.
Never thought that there was a limit in Freeway. But hey, everything or everyone has its limits… so I take it for granted.

Do you have any experience with grabaperch?

I’ve done two sites with it for clients. It’s very straightforward to set up on the server – there’s a lovely installer page that walks you through all the requirements and makes the database for you. There’s a fully-featured admin panel where you can create pages (essentially static pages for your site, with dynamic content) or Blog posts (like pages, but specific to blogging, and with some extra features that make more sense in that context).

When creating a blog, you do need to put some template files in a very deeply nested folder in the server’s file hierarchy, and those files (which are cut-down partial templates, say one for what a blog post looks like when it’s viewed in a list, another for what that post looks like fully-expanded) have to be created by manipulating a text file in a programmer’s text editor, like BBEdit or TextMate. You could design your layout in Freeway, and publish it, but then you would need to open the published HTML file in a text editor, locate the part or parts that define your layout element and copy and paste (and edit) them to put them into the Perch context. Perch also introduces some new tag attributes and tags (new in the sense that they are not a part of HTML) that you have to get comfortable with.

Perch is ideal for someone who has some comfort with writing and editing HTML code, and a willingness to stare at example code, see what’s there that doesn’t belong to HTML itself, and follow the example it sets pretty literally. I’ve been writing and reading code for far too long to be a good judge of what you’ll find easy (that, and I don’t know what sort of experience base you are working from). Give it a look, and read the manual. If it all seems like gibberish, then there are a number of us on this list who have done it before, and can either give you the hints you need, or just do it for you (for a price).

I’ve worked with Perch numerous times and my experience with it mirrors Walter’s. It’s a wonderful light- to mid-weight CMS but make no mistake, it’s anything but point-n-click, and the docs can be frustrating at times. You need to be prepared to put the work in and possibly step (well) outside of your comfort zone, depending on your comfort/skill level. If you’re prone to balking at anything code-related then think twice. Or as Walter suggested, hire someone.

Hi there, Thanks for sharing your experiences with Perch. I do not have a lot of experience with coding, but I am willing to learn and definitely do like to step out of my comfort zone. So a good first step will be to read the manual and take a close look at Perch.

When needed I will ask for hints! It also worked for me when starting to create my inline design.

That’s a crucial first step.

As far as Pulse goes - once installed on your server it is just a matter of pasting a couple of lines of PHP into a Markup item on your inline FW page (if you want an expandable layout).

Thanks, David. I make a new blog on a new page. Does it mean I can do that in Pulse too? For instance from my iPad?

I would like to be able to blog from somewhere else than from within Freeway. So how does that work in Pulse?

how does that work in Pulse?

You log in to your Pulse backend on the server and do it all there. The FW page remains unchanged - no fresh upload required.

Simple web interface does it for you.
