[Pro] Making Graphic Images Look Like iWeb's

Hello everyone,

Just cutting my teeth on Freeway Pro, so I hope you’ll humour me in my asking some newbie questions.

I’ve noticed that images appear a little different in Freeway than they do in iWeb, a tad fuzzier and the colour not quite as intense, so I figure that it might be that Freeway and iWeb treat imported graphics differently. I know, for example, that iWeb converts photos from JPEG to PNG. I created two graphics objects in a blank Freeway page and sized them to be the same as one that I have in an iWeb page. I imported a photo from iPhoto into the iWeb page and published it. I then imported the same photo into one of the Freeway graphics objects and scaled and trimmed it. Finally, I imported the PNG version of the photo that iWeb created when it was published. In Freeway, the PNG image looked just like it does in iWeb and, I must admit, better than the straight JPEG that came directly from iPhoto.

So, I was wondering: Is there any way to get Freeway to treat or convert imported graphics in the same way that iWeb does? It is possible to simply mirror the site in iWeb and then take the PNG’s that iWeb creates, but I think it would be better to set up Freeway to do it directly. Hope this isn’t heresy!

Regards,

Gregory

Select the photo object in your Freeway layout, then In the Inspector pallet you can set the output to png. I believe that FW default is to output graphics as jpegs.

Hi Gregory

You may already know this but Freeway sets the default for jpeg graphics to 75% quality. You can change this. Go to Document Setup… under the File menu, and choose the graphic tab. You can then set the jpeg quality to 100% and progressive as the default, as well as set the png to millions of colours (if you need a transparency or better quality output).

Another useful item in the Document Setup, is in the Output tab.
You can choose Common Resource Folder instead of Separate Resource Folder to help avoid re-uploading larger unedited files every time you upload an update to a site.

Hope this helps as well…

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the helpful comments. I have messed around a little with the graphics quality setting. I didn’t know about the Common Resource Folder. Definitely need to make use of that.

Thanks once again,

Gregory
