[Pro] managing pop-up windows

Hi
Here’s the set-up:
I have several links on one page, each of which needs to open a different image into a pop-up window.
I have tried several options, but none solves my problem.

  1. set each link to open in the same pop-up window.
Problem: the window doesn’t come to the front on the second use, so can be completely hidden behind the main browser window.
  2. set the pop-up to self close.
Problem: it only closes if you move to a new page in the main browser window, so clicking a second link on the same page has the same problem as in (1)
  3. set each link to open in a different pop-up window and set them each to self close:
Problem: each one comes to the front and leaves the others open, but only the most recent pop-up self-closes when you move to another page in the browser window, leaving loads of pop-ups all over the place.
  4. add a ‘close pop-up window’ button to the pop-up - this wouldn’t solve the problem completely but might encourage the ue to tidy up as they go. But I can’t find an action which does this.
In this site’s previous incarnation someone wrote me a ‘focus’ script which worked reasonably well, although not in all browsers.
    Suggestions?

OK - I’ve found a javascript solution to making a ‘close window’ link in a thread from about 3 years ago.
Not the solution to my problem that’s top of my list but will do as a workaround for now.
Any other suggestions welcomed…
