What are some of the best practices for using master pages?
I typically design my masters first, then move on to creating the individual pages. I always include things like headers and footers in my masters, but the body format can often vary from page to page, so I’m wondering if it should even be part of the master. Plus, as I work on the individual pages, I often find myself wanting to add something to the master. If you add an item to a master page will it automatically be added to all of the linked pages?
And maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’ve found that if I delete a master item from an individual page, I can’t get that item back without creating a whole new page.
Just wondering what other people do so I can improve my workflow.
A good way to figure out what parts of any child page are coming from the master, and which might be duplicates that lost their connection to the source, is to make a completely blank master page. Then switch your page from its existing master page to the new blank page, and look at what disappears. (This is entirely non-destructive, by the way.) Anything that remains on the page that you think is actually master content may be deleted at this point, and then when you switch the master back to the original, your master content will return.

Yes
I can’t get that item back without creating a whole new page.
