[Pro] Meta Description Error

Hey guys,
I have uploaded my site all no dramas, however when the site shows up in google, i am not getting the correct meta description showing up. I have followed the instructions relating to meta tags etc on the Freeway help section, and in the forums here it is all quite simple, but for some reason it still shows the desription of my web hosting company and nothing else.

I have submitted to google seo etc but still having no luck.

If someone knows what could be going on I would love some help.

The site is at www.rufl.com.au.

Thanks guys,

Tim

I think that you just may have to be patient - how long has the site been up. If any less than a few weeks then hang on in there.

Other things to note. You have

<meta name="The Rusty and Unfit Football League" content="The RUFL was founded in 2010 when the White Ice faced off against the Black Magic. With the inclusion of new teams the Red Devils and Blue Evolution, 2012 is going to be huge!">

It should be:

<meta name="description" content="The RUFL was founded in 2010 when the White Ice faced off against the Black Magic. With the inclusion of new teams the Red Devils and Blue Evolution, 2012 is going to be huge!">

It should also be more page specific - you have the same description on all the pages and it is repeated on the same page.

BTW the Team dropdown menu is disappearing behind the logos on most of the pages.

Hi David, The page has been up for about a week now, so does it eventually update itself in google after a while?

Also do I need to delete the preset “Generator” name in the Meta tags?

I did actually notice the menu issue, however I am not sure how to fix it…

Thanks heaps for your help, any other feedback would be greatly appreciated as this is the first site I have put together.

Thanks,
Tim

Google only comes around to re-index your site when it feels like it. Reasons for feeling like it can include (this is only a guess, by the way, since I don’t work for Google’s search division) a) Historical frequency of page updates (the site has been different each time the Google bot crawled by in the past n visits), b) How popular the site is (lots of people click on it in the results when they search for a general term). No matter how Google feels, if the page has only been up a week and Google already found it, that’s great! Most folks aren’t so lucky.

No, and you shouldn’t, unless you actually wrote the HTML yourself. Generator tags are a sign to the semantic Web that the code in question is likely to be rigorously constructed, rather than haphazard hand-made tag soup.

On each page where the menu appears, click once on it, then choose Item / Bring to Front from the main menu.
