Well - let me answer you in that way:
Freeway is primary built to let you easy create unique websites. Templates are of course one thing to start - I used them in the past to have a look on other designers techniques, but it shouldn’t be a “can’t live without 'em”.
My today favorit thing to do is to have a look at the “what’s going on out there” thing and trying to replicate those within freeway. A major step in designing process was once to have a closer look into http://960.gs/ which is now the base of my entire work. A template is for me mot the:
“Ahhh - I’ve seen this before, how ugly rebuilt” - issue.
I can’t speak for Dan actually, but either he’s off the theme (what I don’t believe) or he’s planning a really “Relaunch” of all his stuff and probably much more.
I remember an email newsletter some time ago where he mentioned some things into this direction - something like a wholesale (and share) marketplace of free and paid stuff and if I suppose correct (shot in the dark) it will be a huge and extended project. This sounded so cool but I forgot to offer him any needed help (especially if it comes to internationalize all this stuff) - grmmm so I’m still looking forward to.
