[Pro] Newby site media folder question

I’m rebuilding my old table based site with FW7 inflow design. Into it for a few weeks already but before I get too far can anyone tell me if I’m not working with the media folder properly that FW created.
It wasn’t clear to me in the instructions if this “belongs and is used by FW” to store it’s media files when it publishes for the first time or maybe as the sites getting made (specific files currently “in use”)
To clarify, under the media folder, I’ve added 3 subfolders myself for convenience- painting images, other images and videos, and have copied into them all my old original media whether I end up using them all or not.
Advice? Thanks, much appreciated Barry

Yes - that is the correct way.

That is the way I would recommend ie place copies of all original media into the FW created media folder and only import files from there into your FW document. That way you know where all your files are if you have to edit any of them.

If you do make any edits of these files then FW will pick up on that and reflect the changes in your FW doc.

So in further answer to your question - No, this folder (Media) does not belong to and is not controlled by FW.

FW controls and manages the Site Folder - that is the one you shouldn’t mess with. Unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing.

The Site folder is monitored and updated by FW at Publish time and introducing files into it is a mistake. However there are Actions that can do this for you - such as Upload Stuff and Extra Resources that will include files in your Site Folder without you having to do it manually.
