Could you post a link to the page in question? I can’t really tell more from what you’ve said here. (It sounds as though you did everything you should.)

And this once uploaded to the site displays the padlock so it seems to be secure.
When I remove the .htaccess file the site is no longer secure but it displays the newscycle.
The problem is that the newscycle still doesn’t work when secure. Am I missing something?
