[Pro] No page background colour

I’m trying to send out a test email before I use a service such as Mail Chimp. I’ve followed the tutorial on Softpress’s site (Create Email Action - Freeway - Softpress Talk) which is fine, until I get to the section that tells me to view the page in Safari, and select ‘File>Mail Contents of This Page.’ to get it into Mail. I’m using Safari 7.0.2 and that option is no longer there (at least I can’t see it).

I can manually select all on the page and copy into a mail client such as Apple mail, but the grey email background does not appear, and the page is not ranged left.

How I get that page into a mail client complete with background colour, to send out as a test?

Many thanks.
Neil.

What you appear to have created is one big image

Was that your intention? Or is the link not to the actual email newsletter?

Hi David,

Yep, that’s the intention at this stage for a visual. When its all finalised, the design will become a full HTML email. In the meantime, I’m simply using a png in a table, with some HTML text under it.

Not sure how that is going to be that valuable for testing purposes.

I’m using Safari 7.0.2 and that option is no longer

I believe the option in Safari 7 is slightly different.

Now it is Share>Email this page

After the new mail window loads on the right you’ll see: Send Web Content As

Select: Web Page

Hi David,

I’ve done a few HTML emails in the past simply using FW’s File/New/Blank Email, following the Softpress tutorial and action, then using ‘mail contents of this page’ in Safari to get it into Mail. Sometimes the newsletters are complex table based layouts, other times they’re simply a single image centred on a coloured background. This example will eventually be constructed using using HTML text and separate images, but at the moment thats not my issue, the main problem I have is that I can’t reliably get the email to appear in correctly when sent.

Below are screenshots to show my issue exactly:

In FW: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33096171/in%20freeway.png

In Safari: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33096171/in%20safari.png

In Mail (after using Share-email this page)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33096171/in%20mail.png

The received email: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33096171/received%20email.png

As you’ll see, the image is missing from the table, its now left aligned and the grey background has gone.

Are you using the Create Email action to ensure that all paths/links are absolute?

I’ve binned it all and started again, following every step of the tutorial - you are correct - I’d missed the Action. Schoolboy error, what a div.

It’s now appearing perfectly in Mail, and again when forwarded on.

Thanks for your help, appreciate you’re probably very busy and really welcomed your input, thank you David.

Neil.

The ‘Mail contents of this page’ in Safari has moved. It’s now under the ‘Share’ button on Safari’s toolbar (little box with an arrow coming out of it). Choose ‘Email This Page’ and a new mail should open. Mail (not Safari) offers the choice of whether to send just a link or the actual page - it’s a discreet little selector on the right below the ‘From’ field.
