[Pro] No-show in Google

Good morning one and all … for my own amusement I made a website to illustrate my local town, I never finished it but having some time on my hands have decided to get back on the project and try to make a few pennies as well. I realise I’m going to have to do some marketing etc etc (I know it requires a lot of work and a lot of research) but, although the site has existed for many months, if I do a simple search in Google “Christchurch Dorset” the site doesn’t show at all (well I went back 10 pages) … can anyone please spare a couple of minutes to have a look and tell me what a fool I’ve been and missed something very basic and important please.

Best Roger

I think the first thing to do here is to get a google (account) and a google tracking code (Tracking-ID) via analytics. This ID applied to your page makes it recognizable.

All the rest is some simple SEO rules which are well described here (however I forgot the article written by Marcel I think).

Cheers

Thomas

As an example the gallery photographs I don’t think any photo has an alt=“Description” every photo is invisible to Google. That would help a lot. On the wildlife page there’s no text at all? And the fox photo has alt=“fishing” that could be alt=“Fox hunting in the fields around Christchurch, Dorset”. The rest more content (text).

Also look at your document structure. Use the Safari Development Menu to turn off styles. Or do the same in Freeway Accessibility menu. Does in make sense? Is it readable to humans?

You’ve got only headings on most pages http://www.christchurchview.co.uk/christchurchviewdogfriendly.html

All the page is H2 followed by a H1. Create a document with good headings followed by

text. Structure the heading down the page starting from H1.

Look at this the page semantics (the readability of your page)…
