[Pro] Not even a full version upgrade

This is interesting. I have 5.4.2 and now there’s 5.5 and a charge for upgrading. I can understand if it was 6.0 but an in between upgrade charge? Sure, 29 bucks isn’t much but I wonder what the charge for 5.6 will be? Will think about this before I let go of another 29 bucks.

Freeway has been around for 17 years, and is still at major version 5.
Softpress tend to be very conservative with what it takes to bump the
major number[1] and incredibly generous with the point releases.
Still, they need to eat sometimes. It’s a major-sized chunk of new
features, at a very minor price bump. The RPL Action alone will shave
YEARS off your work time. THe number is not as important as what it
allows you to do.

  1. As far as I can tell, they only bump the major version when the
file type becomes incompatible, so if you couldn’t open 5.5 files with
5.0, that would mean a major version, or 6.0.

Have you checked ALL the new additions for this upgrade? It’s fantastic value. It’s been said before, but look beyond the numbers. You’ve got 5.4.2. If the upgrade had been to version 5.7 or 5.8 would you feel you’ve got more for your money for a mere $29?

Attn: Softpress1. I suggest Softpress should change the upgrade revision to a higher number and they’ll get less people applying this argument.

You won’t find a more generously spirited or helpful company than Softpress.

But while I’m on the subject of price. If you buy Freeway Pro outright as a first time buyer, your first commercial website should pay for the software, and you certainly won’t find that with QuarkXpress or InDesign for example.

I don’t have any complaints about Softpress support. I have experienced it in the past and have been grateful for all the help. I just thought it strange that such a minor bump in version would justify an upgrade price. Generally companies charge for full version prices, like 4.0, 5.0, 6.0. To be honest, I wouldn’t have said anything if it was offered as 6.0. Guess I’m being too picky and stupid. Oh well. I haven’t done much on my website since my wife passed away last year. I’m sorta getting my life back together and maybe I should d/l the upgrade and see exactly how it can benefit me.
BTW. Softpress. Keep up the good work. You have an awesome program and it’s folks like me that use Quark and Indesign that I can actually build pages in a manner I’m used too.

Not sure where I got 29 bucks. I went ahead and ordered it. It was 49 smackers. Now that I’m 60 I should get a slight discount. Waiting for Softpress to confirm email on age.

Did you look for the senior discount?

It’s there.
