[Pro] OCR Software

I just landed a 16 pg. brochure that requires me to duplicate much of the inside copy. Unfortunately, a digital file of the copy doesn’t exist so I’ll either need to retype everything from scratch or scan the copy using an OCR app.

Time wise, it’ll probably be cheaper to use OCR software. I’ve done a little research and the only Mac app I came up with is FineReader from Abbyy.

Does anyone have any experience with FineReader. If not, is there another OCR app you would recommend? BTW, this will be sued with an Epson WF-7520 printer/scanner. Thanks!

Do you have Acrobat Pro? I think it has OCR built into it as well.

Google Drive will also automatically offer to convert most files types to a plain text version as well. Try it with a scan and you should be offered a text conversion on upload.

Tim.

Don’t forget the important thing about OCR is that it is not flawless. You
may not have to re-type it, but you will need to proofread it.

If you make that your client’s job, then you may look like you’re phoning
it in. Hire a professional proof-reader / copy-editor if you can. That’s
what I think.

I remember a time at my first agency job when the client sent over hard copy instead of the disk they were asked to provide. I had hired a production artist to get the copy into the annual report layout, and it turned out he was moonlighting from his job as a copysetter at the Inquirer. He could type about 200 wpm, and proceeded to, flawlessly, easily beating the motorcycle courier that brought us the disk later that day.

Grandpa, was there really a time before the Internet?
