[Pro] Old Cache

We are in development stage of a website and have multiple eyeballs checking it periodically. Invariably someone is always looking at old pages it would appear due to old cache… is there a ‘magical’ button around this issue other than simply dumping your cache every time you go to the site?

Thanks.

This has been a hairy issue for many developers for many years and the most absolute way to make sure you see the correct stuff every time is dump your browser’s cache every time.

I have seen browser behavior where they dump cache for everything except the website you are currently on so the best way to dump the cache is go to any other website first and the dump cache.

Now when you view your work you know it is correct every time.

Just my 2 cents worth.

That’s what I was afraid of… So ‘Control R’ isn’t reliable is it?

Thanks for the help!

Hold down the Option/Alt or Shift key, and press the Reload button in
the browser’s toolbar. (Depends on the browser which one will help, so
try them both – it won’t hurt anything.)

Two things that have helped me.

  1. Name the page .shtml.
  2. Add a No Cache action to the page

Pages named shtml are usually reserved for ones that have server side includes - if you are not using these then you can suffer a performance hit as you are asking the page to be ‘read’ for instructions before it is loaded.

The cache buster action should be enough but the problem is not always Browser cache but can be Server cache too.
