[Pro] Online Ordering System

I met with a new client today (an Italian Restaurant) and they want me to build an online ordering system into their new website. I was very honest and told them I have never done anything like that before, but I would certainly try.

One of the websites they like, which was done in Joomla, offers an online ordering system, which is likely some kind of plugin. Rather than build something from scratch, which would be way too costly and time-consuming, I’d like to find an online ordering system that can be plugged into a FWP designed website.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, reliable, online ordering solution that’s FWP compatible? Something that is food service oriented would be a bonus.

Thanks!

Google’s your friend. But try this for starters http://www.phpjabbers.com/food-delivery-script.

Indeed. The reason I posed the question is I tend to trust forum members to be honest about how good (or bad) something is, which saves me a lot of time with trial and error

Thanks for the link. That looks like a good solution.

Todd, you rock!

I just played around with that and it looks like it would be perfect. Are these kind of scripts hard to implement or do they work along the same lines as Perch?

I’ve never used that particular script but generally speaking it should fairly easy to work into FW. You will need to call the script from FW plus whatever else it may require. Also be sure to consider how easily it can be modified to suit your needs because rarely do these canned scripts meet every project requirement straight outta da box. I’m pretty sure PHPJabbers offer customization (for a fee) or you can do it yourself.

Thanks for the tip.

My clients aren’t very computer savvy, but they’re very nice people so I want to help them as best I can. The easier the system, the better, but it seems like this might be a pretty good first step–for them—and me.

I’ll look around for some others as well.

Hi,

A few years ago we built an online ordering system and website for a restaurant in PHP. This platform allows restaurant owners to put their restaurant menu online, manage orders and page content. Customers can order and customize food items, choose a delivery method, pay for their order and tips online, save their favorite orders, etc.

Here is a link to the demo: http://dallasjonesbbq.outsidethepixel.com

We were thinking of making this platform available for free for web developers, open it to contributors and let them develop plugins and extensions.

Is that something anyone would be interested in? Would you prefer to use a framework/platform like this one developed by another team, rather than creating your own from scratch?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Aurelien

I think MOST Freeway Pro users don’t possess the expertise to design their own online ordering system from scratch, so this would probably be something a lot of people would be interested in as long as it’s easy to implement within the Freeway Pro framework.

Also, I don’t think most people would mind paying for something is it works well and save them time. Just look at the success Caleb is having with Backdraft. http://backdraft.onrampwebdesign.com
