If you ⌘Q the app while the document is still open, when you reopen the app, the document will open as well.

Yosemite and newer, I think. Also “close windows when quitting an app” must be unchecked in the General pane of system preferences.

Yes - wont work without that.
However as it is a General Preference I am not sure how useful it is to have all your apps open the last document you worked on?

It only reopens the last document you had open if you quit the app (⌘Q) with the document opened. If you first close out of the document/window, then it won’t reopen anything.

Yes, if you restart the Mac, for example, and therefore Freeway is quit by the system without being brought to the foreground, then the last document will not re-open.
