[Pro] Opinions on best way to create this menu...

Hello Jimmy,

In my humble opinion, the only way to do that would be “Flash” animation. I can’t think in any other solution to do it, but let’s hear some more opinions

Good luck

I have been asked by a cartoonist friend to build him a simple portfolio website.

He has supplied me with lots of assets including a ‘Switchgear style navigation menu’ that he wants me to use. Have a look at this link…

He wants the lever on the left to move when you hover over each menu item, and for it to make an electrical noise like a till register when you click.

It has left me baffled at the moment as there are lots of variants involved in creating this as to the best way to create it. I’m thinking along the lines of slicing up the image and creating different states of appearance.

Does this sound like the best approach to you or can you offer a simpler method?

thanks in advance.

Hi Jim

For some reason I do not see your original post - only Marcus’ reply.

Here is an example page which just uses your original graphic and some FW actions.

The only additional image is the handle which is cut from the original and reused.

Hi Dave, that’s a nice example. Is it possible you can share the Freeway file for this then I can dissect it and see how you did it?

cheers

OK - download from the example page.

BTW I was just about to trash it as you hadn’t responded in nearly a month!

Hi Dave had a family bereavement recently, so apologies for not coming back sooner. I will post a link later as I have nearly completed that project now.

Hi Dave,

here is the link…

still some bits to do on it, noticed that the handle sticks on HOME when you go to a new page and you have to mouse over to make it move, im sure that this is just a minor tweak?

You will need to change each page so that the handles starting point is at the relevant place for that page
