Here are the answers and descriptions of how I made these images
Number One is an image that was sized in Photoshop to 1024 pixels wide,
then output to JPG format via “Save for Web and Devices”. Progressive, with
a quality setting to produce a compressed file-size of 59k.
Number Two is an image that was sized in Photoshop to 1024 at 300ppi, then
saved to JPG format via “File > Save As”. Progressive, with a quality
setting to produce a compressed file-size of 79k.
Number Three is a large (27mb) Photoshop file, sized in Freeway Pro to 1024
pixels wide and set to export as JPEG, progressive, with a quality setting
to produce a compressed file-size of 70k.
The third image is admittedly the worst-looking of the bunch. I think that
upping the compression quality would improve it, but I really wanted to
have them all close as I could for a fair comparison. Additionally, I
removed the flexible image setting from the images (it’s part of a template
that I built for myself, creating a presentation frame and built-in
flexibility. Normally I would use it with a lightbox effect as well, but
for this effort I felt that image scalability would contradict the point of
comparing images.

Yes, I can see the difference. Number three has jagged edges compared
to the other two. Thanks for the comparison page!

Here is a link to a page I prepared on this subject, but encountered some
weird issue with. Resolved now, and presented here:
