I’m running into a problem I can’t get solved myself. This is my first site in FW7 and I never had this problem before.
My page is 960x1250. I choose a window background color (warm gray-ish for the moment) and a page background (dark red). I covered part of the page by a white rectangle and a gold line. At the bottom I have a gold footer.
What happens is that my dark red page color doesn’t cover the whole page area it should cover. It stops halve way down and is then replaced by the window color. So I’m stuck with a gray field on the lower page part. While it should end at the gold footer.
I can’t figure out what is happening because I never had this problem before.
I’m having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I have a background color of dark grey, and a page color of white. When the page is previewed, only the part of the web page that’s “above the fold” is white. Once you begin to scroll down, the page color (white) reverts to the background color (grey).
I have no idea how to provide an example without publishing the site. I do not want to publish the website yet, since it is incomplete. Is there any other way that I can upload an example?
Interesting. The Window Background colour goes behind everything and extends as far as someone can scroll, no matter how much content there is. The Page Background colour applies to the PageDiv, which won’t necessarily behave the same. I’ve never used these two. I’m a little at a loss as to why you’d use both the window and the page background colours… :-?
I’ve used the “Window Background” to color my background grey (that’s what the panel is for – to color the background). Ditto the “Page Background” panel. It’s used to color the page. In the FreewayPro menu it’s found under:
Window
Inspector
When this is selected, the “Page” panel pops up on the righthand side. In that panel is found “Window Background” and “Page Background” with options available for choosing their colors. So, I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. How did you color your page and background if you’ve “never used these two”? Am I doing something wrong?
If you have your page set to Align none you will get this result if you have your width set as minimum or flexible. Align it to center or add a fixed or max width and you will get what you expect.
Tell us exactly what you want your page to look like - or better yet show us.
Point is (I think), that you defined the bottom items (those that should be the footer) by declaring its positions from the top. This value is much bigger than the page-content itself which leaves the gap in between.
####Solution
Select this golden bar item and declare its vertical-align from top to bottom. Repeat this for those text-items as well.
Cheers
Thomas
Start to think about simple inline-constructions rather than placing all your stuff “absolute” in single items. That’s just a footnote.
In the “Measurements” panel all my pages are set to the following specifications:
Align: Center
Width: Maximum
Despite this setting, my white background does not scroll for the length of the page. The white only appears on the top half of the page – “above the fold” – with the rest of the page background appearing transparent, with the background color grey showing through instead.
Of course, I could draw a white graphic box the full width and height of the page, send it to the back, and then “lock” it to create my white page, but I was wanting to avoid using that method.
What is the “Page Background” panel used for, if not for coloring the page background?
Despite this setting, my white background does not scroll for the length of the page.
I have to reiterate that your page construction is integral to this and without knowing what and how your page is constructed we can only hazard a guess.
Yes the Page Background setting should affect the ‘Page’ but ‘Page’ in this context is meaningless.
I appreciate that you do not wish to Publish an incomplete site but you can do it even on a temporary basis so that we can see how your page is constructed.
And if you dont want to do that then send your FW files to support(@)softpress.com and they can look at it for you.
Alternatively there are several guys here that you could reach out to and generally their email addresses are on their People Page.
I am not sure that you have even mentioned which version of FW you are using?
It may be more of a work-around than a “resolve”. But what I did was go back to the way I had been creating/coloring the page background, which was simply drawing a box the full length of the page, sending it to the back and then locking it down. In all honesty, I DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT, but I could find no other option. Simply coloring the page with the “Page Background” panel was not working, so I did what I had to do to move forward with the project.
Again, thanks for the help. I really appreciate everyone who took the time to respond and offer suggestions.
If you’re interested in viewing the end result, here’s a link to my website:
I’m viewing my website on Safari, and everything looks perfect. I hadn’t increased or decreased the text to see what it would do, but yeah, I see that it overlaps when the text size is changed. Is there an easy way to fix this?
David: What do you mean when you say that I need to make my layout “inline”. Is there an option I should turn off or on to fix this?
