[Pro] page design elements for full width

This may be a daft question, but I am having problems with getting header colour blocks etc expanding to the window width when it’s wider the the page size I’ve defined.

To be precise, what I want to achieve is when the browser window is expanded to maximum, my blocks of colour behind my header/ footer etc also expand. (These blocks are graphic items.)

Looking through threads I found reference to the use of box-model layout, which I’m not yet ready to delve into.

Is there a way to do it using alignment and widths on the master pages?

Many thanks.

If you set the page alignment to anything other than None, then you cannot have a browser-width element on your page, only a page-width element. Now you can create a semi-inline layout to fix this. Set a new blank page to Align: None, and double-click into the page itself so you see a flashing text cursor. From the main menu, choose Insert / HTML Item. Click and drag the corner of this element to be the width of the “page” you want to display. In the Inspector, set the Margin to Auto (centered). This box will become the base for the rest of your drawn-in-place page. To use it as such, make sure that you have it selected (click once on it, so its handles show at the corners) and then select a tool and draw another page element entirely within the bounds of this box. You will be able to tell you’re doing it right if you see the borders of this box glow blue to indicate it is accepting the child element. You can also retrofit this type of layout into your page by inserting the inline box, then showing all page contents, and finally dragging the non-inline elements into the inline box as positioned children using the hierarchical list of page elements in the left-hand column.

Thanks for your reply Walter. I’ve tried your fix, but to no avail; the child items don’t expand to browser width, just remain aligned left.

I shall give up for now, and come back to this when I have some more time.

Meanwhile I shall just create ‘over-width’ page design elements that hopefully whose ends won’t been seen. I guess it depends on the computer display!

Thanks again for your time. Always appreciated.

Josephine.
