[Pro] Page Link Problems

I am building a page and have a problem I can’t solve. The page links at the top of the page look perfect when viewed in FireFox, but when viewed in Safari, they run over to the next line. I have tried everything from deleting them all and putting them back in to going to the original template and copying them in fresh. Nothing has helped. I hope someone can help me solve this so I don’t have to start the whole site from scratch.

It sounds as though the links are too wide for the container they’re
in. Can you reduce the font size or make the container bigger?

best wishes,

Page links all in one line here, on Safari, but offset to right. If
you have used the CSS Menus Action, you can reduce the spacing the
width by a couple of pixels (or a decimal point or two of Ems) to see
if that helps on your screen.

You could also set the paragraph alignment to ‘center’, 'left, or
‘right’ in the Inspector and move the container (HTML box) across
slightly to get the exact positioning you want.

Thanks to both Paul and Colin for your replies. Paul, I tried reducing the font size as an original solution and it never made any difference at all on Safari. Colin, I am not trying to use CSS Menu Actions and the paragraph alignment is set to left. The original template does not exhibit this problem so it must be something I did. I am having visions of having to start over.

The menu on the home page is a larger font size than the rest of the
pages - reduce the font size and retest, refreshing the browser in
Safari. The old page may be cached. Also make sure you haven’t
inadvertently typed in any extra spaces, which you won’t see, but
which can nudge the spacing along.

Also, if you are using a master page for the masthead of the site,
check you haven’t altered something on the child page ‘Home’ that has
detached it from recognising the master. In the Inspector ensure that
the ‘Use Master Content’ and ‘Use Master Settings’ are checked when
you select the Menu Item on the Home page.

Yup - 12px on the home page and 10px on the rest

Thanks for catching the font size problem gentlemen. I wish it had solved the bigger problem as well, but I certainly would not like my finished product to have such a flaw.

Have you tried deleting the menu from your home page and copying and
pasting the menu from another page into either the home page or your
Master page, if you use one.

Remember to reload the page a couple of times - Safari has a habit of
‘holdng on’ to its cached pages, sometimes.

As I said before, though, all your navigation menus appear in one
line, in Safari (v4) on my Mac and in both IE and Safari on a PC.
Have you got an old version of Safari on your System, causing you a
local problem?

I’m using a Master Page and the latest version of Safari. I have even tried going back to the original template and creating a new master to see if the problem occurs there. It does. But you are not seeing it on your machines and I don’t see it on Firefox. Before I bang my head any more I’m going to get some friends here to look at it as well and see if they see the problem. Maybe I will learn CSS and use that. I can put the two review items together. I really appreciate your continued help.
