hi all I have a request
mu friend wants 2 password protected log in galleries
one for collectors and one for galleries.
each one will have a gallery so they can upload images themselves.
so my 2 questions are
1.can 2 links of password protected url action be on one site?
2. is there an outside template that can be plugged in so they can easily upload themselves?
thx

1.can 2 links of password protected url action be on one site?
Sure - but if you want any real level of security then this isn’t the way to go.

No - but this will really depends on what sort of Gallery you want to use. You should probably look at something like Pulse and its gallery feature but if you had something else in mind we could have a look at implementation into FW.
The password protect action works at a basic level ie entering a password of ‘password’ will take you to a folder called password - it isn’t secure at all.
So if someone stumbles across the password folder there is nothing actually keeping them out. That includes GoogleBots which can freely trawl that folder.
If you need any real sort of security then use the Feature in your hosting cPanel called ‘Password Protect Directories’
You may want to have a look on HotScripts or another code-sharing site for a membership gallery system. The issue here is one of security. You need each user who will be uploading files to have their own unique login – if you don’t follow this basic step, anyone who knows the one password (as in the cPanel approach) may upload something nasty to break your server or your visitor’s computers. When you have a unique login per user, then at least you will know who did the nasty thing after it happens.
You can have a single password to view the images, if you want things to be that lax, just as a way to keep Google or another ‘bot’ out of there. But I would never allow a single password to protect the upload facility.
the password was going to be a link for only the gallery owners to view images
and
the CMS set up gallery like Pulse or Webyep was for client to upload images as needed
Hey David… Im back on the Pulse plan
they have no contact info but I sent them an email
so to be sure, if Im understanding this correctly
my client wants lets say 6 galleries for different customers, which their archivist will unload themselves to pulse. but they want that customer to see only one gallery and not the others.
each customer will have their own gallery to look at.
I will then put the link on the main website for the password to link to the specific pulse gallery.
is this doable?
thx

So Client uploads all photos to 6 galleries via Pulse.
Each customer has 1 gallery that they can view.
Yes this can be done with Pulse but the password protection will still have to be done through cPanel - or similar. Each gallery in a separate Protected Folder.
Thx David I may need help!!!
Also I contacted Pulse support
And this is their response
"You can create as many galleries as you like, you can then embed those galleries on different pages. As of right now, we don’t have a script that password protects a single page. But we actually finished writing the script and will release it as an add one soon. Then you can have a page with a login to see a gallery.
Yes they are saying that you can Password Protect individual pages with a script.
If you are not particularly code aware then it is far easier to use the feature in cPanel to protect the folder where the gallery page will be. No coding required.
