[Pro] PDF file?

What is the best possible way to include a PDF action in FW Pro 7? I have watched a video demonstrating how to do this, but I could not hear what the man said. It was also done in FW 5.0.
It felt there was too many steops. I tried must best and I came up w an action that was successful ONE time…!

There is a pair of Actions (one for a text link, and one for a graphic button) that will create a link to the PDF and upload and manage the PDF file itself for you. These are built into Freeway, you don’t need to download them separately.

For a text link, insert your flashing text cursor in an HTML box at the point where you want the link to appear, then from the main menu choose Insert / Action Item / Link to PDF. In the Actions palette, select the PDF file, and insert the text you want to be in the link (please, not Click Here!) to describe the file. That’s it, you’re done.

For a graphic button, draw a graphics box, and import an image (maybe a PDF icon, or a thumbnail of the item your visitor will be downloading) then use Item / Actions / Graphic Link to PDF (I think that’s the name). That version is identical to the text link version, except that there is not field for text, since you are linking to an image.

By this (english colloquialism) I mean a tiny picture of the PDF you want people to download. You can make one very easily in Freeway by importing your actual PDF into a graphics box and scaling it down to fit. Then apply the Action to link and upload the PDF, and you’re done. Maybe add a drop shadow or some other styling to the image, too.

There is a Visitor Comments Action, it uses the Disqus service as a back-end. You’ll find it in the Insert / Action Item menu.

There is a Freeway Shop Action suite built into Freeway, and there are also “pro” Actions by Tim Plumb available at http://freewayactions.com that use the same back-end system (Mals Cart).

You’re off to a good start. If you add the http:// to the link, it will be clickable for everyone, too.

Dear Walter!

Again many thanx 4 your views on my trying to build my website! By a happenstance I saw that you have done som actions to FW that I am interested in getting… among them the actions for making columns.

But when I log in to actions Forge, all I get is a sign that says; ”The change you wanted was rejected.” and the ; ”Maybe you tried to change something you didn´t have access to.”

Yes I would guess so… But I can see no way of finding out if my pw is wrong, let alone to make a new one…

Could perhaps send the actions you have created, the could be of importance for me?

If you like, you are welcome to mail me directly at; email@hidden

Cheers, Arne

Hi Arne. I don’t send that error message anywhere in the ActionsForge Rails application. Are you sure you went to http://actionsforge.com ? Also, you don’t have to log in to download anything there, although when you do, your downloads are tracked, and you get automatic notification when they have been updated later.

Also, here’s a quick way to find all the Actions I have written (just discovered this trick):

http://actionsforge.com/actions?q=walter

Apparently when I wrote the Action search, I included the full name of the author as a search term.
