Today, a client made a comment that, on her browser, several of the company’s phone numbers that I had inserted into paragraph text using the format 000-000-0000 we’re broken midway because of paragraph wrapping.
How can I keep complete phone numbers intact so that they don’t get broken up?
Make a new style in your Styles palette. Call it phone or something like that. In the Extended dialog, enter the following Name/Value pair:
Name: white-space
Value: nowrap
Okay out of the stack of sub-dialogs, and highlight your phone number. Apply the style by clicking on its name in the Styles list. You won’t see any change in Freeway’s design view, but a browser (or Preview mode) will show you a number that can’t break across lines.

Thanks Walter. When I tried to apply the style to just the phone number within a paragraph of text it changed all of my paragraph text to the new phone style.
Hmm. It shouldn’t do that unless the style contained some Paragraph attributes. Try changing something at the Character level, like making the color black (or whatever your regular text color already is). See if you can apply it then.

Or if your phone numbers already have a unique style, add the whitespace
attribute to that.

Hey guys. It worked fine. I didn’t realize that I should only set the extended spec, so I had a lot of other attributes selected. Thanks for your help with this.
