[Pro] picture in new window

I could really use some help. I have to update my site every week. I run pictures of vehicles coming up for auction every week. We have about 200 cars a week. I set up a new window to be open when the picture is clicked. but this process takes forever. Is there a way to add the picture once and have it also open larger in the new window?

Thanks

Hi Mike,
I took a look at the site at http://www.fleetsaleswest.com to see if I
could see what you were doing but the site doesn’t appear to be
Freeway generated. Do you have a URL you can share that shows an
example of what you are doing?
At 200 updates a week I’d be seriously thinking about getting the
server to do the heavy lifting for you and looking at server-side
tools that you can simply upload the shots direct from the digital
camera and have the software resize them and add them to the web site.
There are loads of image gallery and content management systems
available that will do much of this for you allowing you to get on
with other things.
Anyway for the time being take a look at the link to Image action at;
http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=008
I wrote it some time ago for a user who wanted to do much the same
sort of thing but without the repetitive nature of manually uploading
the larger images. Put your image in a picture box, scale it to the
size and dimensions to make the thumbnail image, apply the action to
it and select the original image in the action’s interface. Set the
link target to open in ‘_blank’ and when clicked the thumbnail will
open a new browser window and display the larger image.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Mike,
I’ve updated the link to Image action so that you only need to specify
the image once. here’s an example with a demo Freeway 5 Pro file and
the updated action;
http://www.freewayactions.com/test/link-to-image/

I’d noticed that you had a few images on your site where the thumbnail
linked through to a different image which can easily happen if you
have to select the images manually.
Here’s how to use the updated action;

  1. Create a regular HTML item on your page and import the image into
    it making sure that the Passthrough checkbox in the Import dialog is
    unchecked
  2. Size the box and image to make your thumbnail image and style it as
    you see fit with shadows or image borders
  3. Apply the Link to Image action to it (the action now defaults to
    open the larger image in a new browser window so you don’t need to
    change anything in the actions palette unless you want to).
  4. Duplicate the thumbnail both across and down the page to make your
    grid of thumbnails. The action and styling information will be
    preserved.
  5. In each thumbnail box you can simply import and size the correct
    image for the box

When published the action finds the original image and links it to the
Freeway generated thumbnail image. This should save you both time and
any potential error in selecting the wrong image for the thumbnail.
Regards,
Tim.

Tom,

I can’t tell you how much that helps. If you are ever in Portland Oregon. I owe you a beer or two. Thanks

Hi Mike,
I’m glad it helped.

I’m up in Seattle at the moment but I suspect even that’s too far to
drive for a drink! :wink:
