[Pro] Pop-out send form?

Hi. I have to create a form that will pop out when clicking on text link in the copy. On the form itself, I’ll need to include questions and areas for the answers to be filled in, so my client can provide people with appropriate price quotes. What are the best options to create such a form?

Thank you.

Any of the “new window” or “hide/show layer” type Actions could be used for this, depending on what sorts of computers you wanted to support and what level of complexity you had to your page. Probably the simplest thing to do would be to compose your form on the same page as the text link, and use the Target Show/Hide layer to make it appear when the link is clicked (you’ll use the inline form of the Rollover Action to make the text link, and configure its target there). The only down-side to this is that while you’re working on the page, you will have to drag that form element out of your way so you can see and click on things below it.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I’ve tried both and am leaning towards “Text Link to Window”. Question though: if I were to use Target Show/Hide Layer, is there a way to include a “close” button on the form that pops up?

Btw, the form will have to work well on desktop and mobile devices and the site, unfortunately, is hosted by GoDaddy, if any of this factors in.

Thanks.

If you are using it on mobile, then you definitely don’t want to use the text link to new window approach. There’s only one window size on a mobile device, and you’re frankly better off just putting the form all by itself on the page rather than trying to do something fancy with popups. If you use one of the layer-based approaches, you can have the form appear to pop over the rest of the page, but you still need to think very clearly about how someone on an iPhone will experience this. Any extra “chrome” around the perimeter of the page just takes away space for the large form fields that look normal and are finger-usable on a phone screen.

It might be better then to have it on its own page. My client requested to have the form handled as a pop-out as she was strongly influenced by someone to have it done this way.

As a back-up, is there a way (coding) to hide it on mobile phones, but work on desktop and tablets?

Thank you.
