[Pro] Pop-up photo sizes?

I’m currently designing most of my websites to fit a 1024 x 768 page.

I’m curious to find out what size most of you are using for pop-up photos using either Showcase or third party plug-ins like Fancybox?

Currently, I’m not designing sites wider than 960. My popups would not
exceed 800px in the long direction, and usually are no more than 600px.
Part of that is deciding how good a resolution image I am giving people to
“steal” - the other heavy influencer is the mobile browser appearance. As
enormous and generous desktop and laptop screens are, the mobile view is
quite restricted. Yes, pinch and zoom - but remembering how quickly I am
disinterested by pages I cant read or having to pan and zoom to view, I am
more cautious about practical limits of user-experience.
