[Pro] Popup instructions, please

Please have a look at this page: www.my-santana.com.
The menu line at the bottom is just individual graphic items. I would like a popup box to appear over or under when hovering over the “Virtual Tour”, with 3 links and with the same font.
I’ve been looking around, but can’t seem to find step by step instructions, or the right alternative to do it.
Can anybody give a helping hand, baring in mind I’m quite an amateur?
Thanks,
Jon

Incidentally, how do you make the links in the posts clickable? In my post www.my-santana.com is just that, and no action…

Make your links fully-qualified URLs – http:// in front – and then
they will just work. That distinguishes them from ftp:// links or
other protocols.

Ok, to make it easy for everybody, hoping for some help:

Draw the items you want to have appear as separate (layered) HTML
boxes[1], precisely where you want them to appear. Add your text and
other contents to these boxes. Basically design your page as you want
it to appear if someone managed to hover over all of the graphics at
once.

Next, apply the Target Show/Hide Layer Action to each of these layered
HTML boxes. Set them to Initially Hidden and Restore Yes. Give each
one a unique Target #, starting at the left with 1 and moving to the
right (just to keep your head straight about the IDs).

Finally, apply the Rollover Action to each of your graphic boxes. In
the Actions palette, switch from the Images tab to the Parameters tab,
and set the Mouseover picker to match the Target # you chose for each
of your layered HTML boxes.

Publish and test. It should do precisely what you want, or at least
get you into the realm where you can fiddle with settings until it
does do. There’s a wealth of options, distributed between the call
side (the Rollover Action) and the response side (the Target Show/Hide
Action) and you can usually get this to do pretty much anything you
like.

  1. Layered means that either they were drawn while the blue CSS Layout
button was on, or the Layer checkbox is ticked in the General Settings
tab of the Inspector when that item is selected in the design view.

Thanks, Walter,

This looks very promising. I will play with it tomorrow. Hopefully you are there if I encounter difficulties…

Walter, this was of great help. Very informative instructions you delivered. And I’m almost there. But as you wrote, there are a wealth of options… And I’ve been struggling unsuccessfully to get the parameters in the 2 boxes to achieve this: Once the cursor is removed either from the “Virtual Tour” box or the popup the latter should disappear.

As it is now the cursor has to be taken away from the “Virtual Tour” box and and then replaced over it for the action to happen. Take a look: http://www.my-santana.com

Any suggestions?

I just tried this very quickly, and I believe it worked the way you
are describing. Try the following steps:

  1. Draw an HTML box on the page. Use the background color picker to
    make it blue.
  2. Apply the Target Show/Hide Layer Action to it. Change the Initially
picker to Hidden. Make no other changes to the settings for this object.
  3. Draw a Graphic Box on the page, and color it black.
  4. Apply the Rollover Action to it, and set the Mouseover # picker to
  5. Make no other changes to the settings for this object.

Now preview. You should only see the black box. Mouse over it, and the
blue box should appear. Mouse off of the black box and the blue box
should disappear. You can do this all day long, and it always “cleans
up” after itself.

Were you looking for some different behavior than what I have
described? Can you point to an example online that shows something
similar to what you want and different than what I described?

The problem here is that the blue box disappears immediately after the cursor leaves the black box making it impossible to click on the links that would be in the blue box. You can see the box with the 3 links over the “Virtual Tours” box.

Aha. That is a problem. If you can, change the Rollover trigger from
mouseover to click. If that works with your design, that is. That will
make the popup less twitchy, at the expense of making your users
click. But just think of all the iPad users who will suddenly be able
to use your site . (You can’t rollover on an iAnything.)

Before I try this, I found a link to what I’m talking about: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20014588-263.html?tag=mncol;title

Try the “All Categories” tab.

They’ve made popup part of the rollover, so there’s no mouseout event
happening until you mouse out of the popup. That’s not going to be
possible as far as I know with this Action. Maybe someone else has
made a solution that works in this case. The click will still work,
but it’s not the same as what you’re seeing here.

Jon,

I want to know how you implemented the beautiful gallery? I love the way the viewer may drag the gallery - to spin it about. And that is one luscious boat!
