Hi, I’m new to Freeway and bought because I wanted to finally create a web portfolio for my design and illustration work.
So, I’m trying to design a page with a row of thumbnails across the top. Each of these has the Rollover action applied. The rollover then activates a large HTML box in the center of the page that contains an inline image box and then a caption entered below it in the containing HTML box. That box has the Target Show/Hide action so it is revealed when the rollover happens. The graphic in that box also has the Graphic Link to File action and the ScriptyLightbox action so a user can click it to see a bigger version if they want.
Here’s the deal: this works exactly how I thought it would work, but ONLY if there is only one image on the page. As soon as I start stacking HTML boxes with more rollover target and lightboxed images, it breaks. The ScriptyLightbox actions loads the images at an immense size yielding scrollbars in the browser window, and the HTML boxes gain weird colored backgrounds if the images in them are not the exact same size as the first.
So I’m lost. Any help would be appreciated. If it’s helpful to post a mocked up page let em know and I’ll do so. Thanks.

Yes it is always helpful to post a link to your online version - then we can read the underlying code.
Check some things first - are all your HTML boxes with images and captions layered items? Check in the inspector for the tick next to the Layer.
Also check that your images are not combining.
Also do it first without the Scripty action so that you make sure the Target show/hide layer part is working before complicating things.

Thanks. I’ll give that a try. Since I got the whole thing to work when there is just one image, I’ll post a couple pages for comparison… hopefully tomorrow.

Hi,
Is something like this that you want ?
http://www.bokobza.eu/Quatre/Jacques/Julie/samuelholwecka1an.html
It was done with the rollover action applied to the thumbnails, and
the Show/Hide layer action applied to the big pictures (with FreeWay
exporting in PNG to preserve transparency).
I can send you the FreeWay document of this page off-list, if you wish.
All the best,
Jacques Bokobza

Heh Jacques - that is a hefty page at over 6Mb. Nearly a minute to load.
You don’t really need PNGs here as there isn’t any transparent areas in your pics (apart from the sides/top/bottom where you have cropped them) and that can be sorted by using Item>Fit box to content. Jpeg file sizes will be much smaller.
You could probably cut your page down to 1.5 - 2Mb
If you are paying for bandwidth this is a significant saving and a better user experience for your visitors.

Sorry to come late to the thread. It took me a while to puzzle out Slide Show Pro (http://slideshowpro.net/) and it cost $29, but it’s a pretty good solution (http://bartwalter.com/port/bartwaltercurrentworks.html).
Not having or working in Flash, I got the Standalone version. For simple portfolios, with not a lot of fancy customizing, it’s a great solution to the massive-page-preloading problem.
Although it is Flash based. Managing it with an XML document is also very nice.

What Jacques posted is pretty much what I want to do with the addition of the lightbox effect. Some of the images I want to show are fairly large (about 1000px wide).
Ok. Here’s two versions of the same site. The first:
http://web.me.com/mosadciw/PortfolioTest/
has multiple images on the page and it works ok, until you click on the large image and ScriptyLightbox runs. Then the image gets blown up past 100%.
The second: http://web.me.com/mosadciw/PortfolioTest2/ works the way I expect it to.
Thanks for some of the advice here. It got me poking around in the Inspector and I noticed that CSS was unchecked. Checking that fixed the weird image border problem I was getting. Freeway is the closest thing to a page layout app as I could find (I’m a print designer), and I’m hoping it’ll finally get me to make some pages.

Good point, David.
And thank you for that.
So obvious I didn’t even think of it.
This page is now less than 3 Mb.
Thanks again,

Hi,
Have a look at that page :
http://www.contemporarymosaics.com/Galleries/wallpanels02.html
The rollover and lightbox effect are applied to the thumbnail.
The images are pretty huge. (The Moretti 2 lightbox has two pictures).
That’s what the artist wanted.
I guess it’s close to what you want to achieve.
Hopes this helps,

Hmm. I tried applying the ScriptyLightbox to the thumbnails but the same problem happened. The lightbox image starts to load properly but then balloons to more than fill the window. That’s definitely what I’m trying to do though.
