Yay! Large glass in the hand!

How do I resize the video?

Bit premature, the wine…

I’ve done all 4 videos, but only 3 will upload, and they don’t seem to work well when I view them. What do you think?

The last one won’t upload, with passive and non-passive load it just gets stuck uploading and I get a network error…

What do you think I should do? Will Freeway 5.5 work better?

Is your problem with the white wedding video

It appears to be there but incomplete

Have you checked that is is OK locally - it may be corrupt?

Hello,

There is supposed to be a video above the White Wedding one and I had to delete it in the end as it simply wouldn’t upload. And then with the three, the uploading got stuck for about 30 mins with the White Wedding one. Do you think I need to remake the files again for White Wedding and Disko Partizani (the other one which hasn’t made it up there yet…)

Two is an improvement on before…

What size are your video files (Mb)

Could it be your server that is choking on them?

In FW’s FTP upload dialogue there is an option to Save Log - if you have that enabled then you will be able to send the Log file to support(@)softpress.com for analysis (after an unsuccessful upload).

The log file is stored in User/Library/Logs/Freeway 5/FTP Logs

Your earlier question about resizing videos in FW - this can be done with the QuickTime Extras action. Apply this to the video container and then you can resize the container to suit your layout and then choose one of the options in the action ie Scale to Fit or Aspect.

Bingo!

I think you’re right about the file sizes. The original .mov file for Tea-time and Ground Zero are 10.3MB and 37.3MB respectively, but Disko and White Wedding are 241MB and 193MB each.

Tea-time and Ground Zero were from a different source.

Not quite sure how best to compress and keep best quality - got MPEG Streamclip, iMovie or Quicktime - any advice?

Thanks so much for help given so far

QT Pro?

But I am not really very sure - don’t do much with video files.

Heather, I’ve used iMovie to output some longish videos quite happily, but with the caveat that many PC users don’t have the QT plug-in, I prefer to use Flash (.swf). To convert, I use

Video2SWF from Vertical Moon at:

http://verticalmoon.com/products/video2swf/video2swf.htm

It currently sells at $45, I think, and I’ve made my dollars back many times over.

I also use 4 Media Video Converter, for some conversions - around the same price mark (according to version) from:

There is a slight quality drop, but providing the originals are good, you should have no need to worry - in my experience, the site visitor’s monitor could well do more damage to the visual experience than the conversion!

The outcome, either way, is fast starting, compact video files that play in more browsers that a native QT movie.

Only a suggestion for you, but may be worth a look.

Colin.

But not on an iOS device. Remember to use the iPhone/iPad redirect action to alternative content for these guys.

You may be surprised how many PC users have QT these days because of the iPod/iTunes halo effect.

do you mean ‘than’ rather than ‘that’? Are you saying Flash is better than QT… but doesn’t iPhone not play Flash? Or can I have both on offer on the website? HOW?

The utterly mystified… Heather

Certainly you can have both - did you not read my post about the iPhone/iPad redirect action?

I did… and I was very surprised. It’s not available as part of the actions on my Freeway 5. Do I have to download it from somewhere? I’m assuming I click on my ‘Flash’ rather than ‘QT’ move and then insert the action?
So once I’ve got my swf files I put them on the site like QT movies?
I’m assuming I need to go back to my Freeway guide and start again. Is it really worth doing as a Flash movie rather than a QT movie?

iPhone/iPad redirect is a page action Page>Page Actions>iPhone/iPad Redirect

Used to detect iphone/ipad visitors to a Flash enabled page and redirect them to a page that has no Flash content.

Is it really worth doing as a Flash movie rather than a QT movie?

Personally I don’t think so as every iPhone/iPad/iPod/iTunes PC (and Mac) user has QT.

I’m just compressing the Fat video files now, going to try the QT route with the revised files and see how I get on. If the Bellydance community can see it , then I’m a happy bunny.

It partly depends on you audience, whether you use the Flash or QT route. For domestic browsers, sticking to QT is fairly safe, with iTunes spreading the ‘gospel’. In the UK, however, I’ve come across a few business scenarios where QT is not on the PC and firewall/security systems won’t let site visitors download the QT plug-in. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky, but when the client ‘refuses’ QT (as one of mine does), there is no option.

FWIW, my real choice would always be QT.

Hi

I think I have finally managed to get my four videos up and playable! Would love to have confirmation from any willing testers

I managed to resize the videos, but the placeholder picture is still the wrong size - how do I get that resized as well?

Many thanks to everyone for your help. Now have to link to a youtube video and hoping that it will not be as traumatic…

Best
