[Pro] Pulse CMS Session Issues

Session Problems with Pulse on GoDaddy Server. When I try to create a new block, it throws me back into the logon page with no saved changes.

Mark (the creator of Pulse) says that it is Go Daddy’s Server issues.

My one-page test is renamed index.php and my permissions are all set to 755. He has looked at the site and says it is clean.

Has anyone had similar problems with Go Daddy?

I have made a fair amount of money over the years by trying to work around the vagaries of GoDaddy for other Freeway users. But I don’t like taking people’s money to persist this myth that, just because they have some laddie-magazine ads on the TV, it must naturally follow that they know how to host Web sites.

I recommend strenuously that you find another host. You cannot swing a cat without hitting a hosting provider who offers a normal environment, with Apache2, PHP as a DSO, and MySQL 5; and often, good customer support to go with.

If you’re worried about sunk costs, consider what it will cost you in your own time (or mine, as a consultant) to untwist this.

Problem solved: it was “a problem with a temp file on our server…” Go figure.

I am inclined to agree with you about GoDaddy, and yes, I think their ads are sexists and stupid as well.

However, they do answer the phones quickly, they never treat me as stupid (as the other host provider did when I last tried to switch) and they always figure things out, which they just did after a 5 minute phone call.

If it were not such a hassle to migrate, I would do it in a skinny minute. Or perhaps just begin all new projects on a new server.

Is there a host that you can suggest-- that won’t treat me as stupid when I call with a question? and please don’t suggest fat cow. been there, done that.

Thanks

I have used a lot of different hosts over the years.

  • Modwest
  • A2Hosting
  • Dreamhost
  • Joyent
  • Rackspace

I would say that A2 are probably the nicest in terms of support, although that’s probably a tie with Joyent.

Joyent is for the big jobs, though; you won’t find anything smaller than a 1GB VPS (Virtual Private Server), and they expect you to know how to compile your own software as root.

When your client is paying, and your client expects the site to be live always, then Joyent is the first place I would look and Rackspace a close second.
