[Pro] quicktimes

No one with a PC seems to able to play the quicktimes (.mov and .m4v files) on our site. All they get is audio. Any ideas?
Suggestions? They all have the latest qt for windows.

Thanks

if you post a link to your site we can go and have a look!

Use the full url including http://etcetc and it will then be a clickable link.

Not just PCs having a problem

I got this error message in Safari

“The page “White Castle “Crave”” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.4”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.”

How are you creating your QT files?

All of the people here have not had any trouble viewing on a mac in safari or firefox. Just the pc’s have had a problem and it was in every browser safari, firefox, explorer, etc…

We’ve made the qt’s in compressor, from files in Final Cut.
With the Apple setting:

“H264 for iPod video and iPhone 640X480”

H264 for iPod video and iPhone 640X480

Are there not more PC specific settings as you can use the iPhone redirect action to take people to an iPhone specific page.

Not sure, but that setting is one that in the past has worked great for all of our sites. We’re not really worried about the iphone at all, it’s just a nice looking compression. Lot’s of advertising sites (wiredrive.com) suggest it as one to use.

So in general not sure why our PC friends are having a problem. I thought maybe there was a simple answer, or others might be having the same issue.

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that this behavior is indicative of missing a codec for playback. Same thing happens on a Mac when you try and play m4v files created in Windows media format.

Interesting. Mac OS 10.4.11. Safari 4.0.3 played audio and video. Firefox 3.5.2 played only audio.

I fiddled around with MIME types settings for a while with no success in firefox. Saw no MIME m4v, so don’t know if FF has a codec for that.

Yes I am running 10.4.11 and Safari 4.0.3 but got the above message!

The thought occurred to me to try changing to .mp4 rather than .M4v
whether that helps or not I don’t know but .m4v seems just to be an mp4
movie with a different suffix to direct opening with iTunes.

Not that I claim to know anything!
