[Pro] Re-Connecting Master Page Items

Is there a way to re-connect items on a page to its’ master page items? I have a few pages where not all of the items on the page are linked/updated when changes are made to its master page. I know that I moved a few of these items during the design phase, but now we are ready to duplicate alot of these initial pages, and the master is complete, so we want to make sure that all of the existing, and new pages use the same master. Thanks!

You should be able to select the item that is on the child page and then Tick the 2 selectors - Use Master Settings and Use Master Content - to reconnect to the Master items.

For the entire page - Page/Reapply Master should do the trick too when used on the pages themselves (on a page by page basis).

It might cause some confusion if you’ve moved things around on your non-master page - doubles can happen - but if you clear off everything that is supposed to come from the Master, you’ll not have a concern.

I don’t think there is a way to Reapply Master globally however (AFIK).

Reapply Master should be used with caution for exactly the reason that igirl suggests - duplication of content! (which you are trying to avoid)

And very often it goes unnoticed as the duplicate items lie exactly on top of existing items. Often it is not until publish/upload that things look screwy.

The problem is further compounded if the master page items have ceased to be master page items. The Use Master Settings/Content check boxes are no longer available in the Inspector Palette.

If this has happened, you can get them back without causing too much disruption to the rest of the site.

1 - Work out which item you need to reattach to the Master Page item

2 - Go through the site and delete this item from EVERY page it occurs on

3 - Return to the Master Page. Select the item and CUT and PASTE it

This has the effect of deleting the original element and creating a new instance on every page that uses that master page. This can be a bit long winded to do, especially if your site is large.
