[Pro] Remote Resources action

Hi Tim,

recently I’ve downloaded your Remote Resources action, but it seems, the action does not work with FW 5.3.2, at least not with the page I’ve applied it to as a page action.

The only thing the action does to the code is stripping the closing tag. Likely not what it was created for.

I tried to fix it myself, but the action, although categorized as a free action on your website, looks to be compressed or encrypted. :frowning:

Any chance to get my hands on the source, as I usually tweak most of the actions I use. With your action I would make the remote url field wider and add a popup with my most used urls.

Found an editable 1.0b version from 2001 on one of my harddrives, but that seems to lack css support. Would be a waste of time to reinvent the wheel.

Uups the form parser has eaten a tag …

“The only thing the action does to the code is stripping the closing tag.”

Should have been.

Hi Peter,
I suspect you are using an older version of the action as I fixed the
FW5 missing end-html bug back in February;

You can download the latest version of the action here;

I’m sill unsure as to exactly what caused the tag to go missing but as
the action had remained unchanged from FW3, and 4 I can only imagine
that there is something in the latest version of the application that
the action doesn’t like. The action now checks to see if the html tag
is properly closed and, if not, manually closes it.
The action is encoded simply because I had repeated requests for a
version that works with Freeway Express. I’ll see if I can add those
changes for you later today.
Regards,
Tim.

Hmm, did you swap the archive today? Yesterday the link pointed to an archive, which contained actions with a last changed date of 04/01/2006.

Funny, but as long as it works.

I didn’t know, actions for Freeway Express have to be encoded. Is the encoding propitiate to the developer, aka did you have to pay for the encoding engine?

Peter

PS: Many thanks for the updated version.

I restored the action on the live site from my development server
because I was having problems with the zip file not decompressing
(although I think it just might be my Mac playing up). I wouldn’t be
too surprised to hear the dates are different as the servers are
roughly 5000 miles apart and I’ve never looked at syncing their dates.
Maybe I should!

Yes, I need to chase this bug up with Softpress to see where the
problem is.

Yes, Pro can run both text based and encoded actions whereas Express
can only do the encoded variety. What Softpress found was that Express
users were having to become more familiar with markup than their Pro
counterparts simply because they didn’t have access to actions. This
proved a pain point for Express users (IMHO) and encoded actions were
introduced to Express in, I think, version 4.

PS: Many thanks for the updated version.
No problem. let me know if you experience any other issues.
Regards,
Tim.
