[Pro] rename picture names (for SEO)

For better SEO results I have to change the names of the pictures on my site.
When I have changed the name do I have to import the pictures again in Freeway?
This is a lot of work, is there a way simplify this job???
Or maybe is it enough, for the SEO, to change the names only in FW and change to the ALT text also???

Yes if you want the name change to be reflected in the new file name that FW puts in the Resources folder - otherwise updating the picture will not change the file name.

Best practice is to have informative/descriptive file names and the same for the Alt text.

Freeway Pro will likely truncate the file name, so I would say focus on the
alts. AFAIK, alts are all the SEO that search engines care about. Still.

David,

I find on lots of places on the Internet that for SEO the picturename is very important the name be coherent with the Title, page content en with the alt text, and so on and so on…
To what length is FW truncate the filenames? (I set max file filename length tot 60 in Document setup) I see also that FreeWay the name change to all lowercase.
Are those filenames, manipulated bij FW, anywhere visible in search results by Google and others?
Is it really necessary to import the pictures again? I changed for testing the Name/ID en the Alt text of the picture and everything seems to be working as before??

BTW I find in my resources folder lots of files like “1361230361924_sss-data.js” what are these?, can I delete them?

I think that freeway Pro is the best and most reliable software (after OSX) on the market but I am disappointed that FW doing things I did not ask for…

These are generated by the Simple Search Action, and you should not delete them. They are the index that the search system uses to locate matching pages in your site.

Generally speaking, you should never manually mange server files in a Freeway site (as long as you are using Freeway’s integrated upload facility). What you think may be a duplicate is usually needed. You are certainly free to delete everything (visible) from your site folder and upload again – a fresh and complete upload – but let Freeway manage everything else.
