On my personal site I have noticed that it look “large” on many laptops that have a very high resolution. The resolution of these newer laptops is over 2000 pixels across. Yet my site looks like it is on a screen that is about 1700 pixels across. Is there a HD setting that I am missing somewhere?

Your site is 1190px wide and on a “real world” width of a laptop screen of 1920px it would have 365px either side. Are you sure you’re not getting confused on the visual proportions on a smaller screen after I assume preparing the site on a much larger screen 2560x1440 iMac.
Like on iOS “high resolution” screens @ 2x resolution would not shrink your site be 50%

It is only on windows laptops that I am noticing this issue. I think that windows laptops auto zoom in on the site to fill the screen. I will test this out because I have no empty area on either side.

Many would create a page width a bit narrower than what you’ve got at 1190px. Common page widths are under that. Many sites I do are based on a 960px page width (flexible width with extra 20px left and right).
